Purpose and scope
Effective September 13, 2026. Lumber Weight is an educational reference and calculation service operated by Ipe Woods USA, LLC. It helps users understand lumber mass, compare published wood-density references, and evaluate stated quantity and moisture scenarios. This disclaimer explains the scope of that service; it is not a product specification or a substitute for the evidence required for a particular decision.
An estimate is not a measurement
Calculator outputs are mathematical estimates derived from the selected inputs and model assumptions. A correctly performed calculation does not establish that the input density, dimensions, moisture condition or quantity matches your material. Decimal places and unit conversions indicate arithmetic precision, not measurement accuracy or a guaranteed tolerance.
A result is not a certified scale reading, guaranteed board weight, maximum possible weight, or statistical confidence interval. Where a decision depends on actual mass, obtain appropriate measurements or product-specific documentation.
Species references and evidence limits
The 30-wood reference is a practical selection of commonly used woods, not a verified ranking of United States sales or consumption. Entries distinguish published average densities from individual research-sample densities and identify their reference moisture condition. Neither type establishes the density of every board sold under the same species or trade name.
Species identity, natural variation, moisture, treatment and processing can affect weight. A reference at 12% moisture does not establish that your lumber is at 12% moisture. Selecting an evidence label for information you enter does not mean that Lumber Weight has tested, authenticated or independently verified it. Read the cited source and its stated scope when the distinction matters.
Dimensions, nominal sizes and model assumptions
Nominal dimensions are product designations. The calculators use actual dimensions to determine volume. Nominal presets load the actual section stated by their identified sizing reference; those conventions are not universal across rough lumber, hardwood products, manufacturers or moisture conditions. Check the supplied product and override a preset where necessary.
The principal model assumes uniform, solid rectangular pieces. Grooves, hollows, taper, irregular sections, machining, coatings, treatment additions and attached hardware are not automatically accounted for. Packaging is included only where expressly entered. Moisture scenarios hold dry material mass constant and do not predict shrinkage, drying duration or installation readiness.
Decisions requiring additional information
Lumber mass alone does not establish structural strength, permissible loading, connection design, lifting or manual-handling safety, vehicle or axle capacity, cargo securement, transport compliance, flotation, reserve buoyancy, or fitness for a particular installation. The website does not approve equipment, construction details or operating procedures.
For decisions involving safety, compliance or specified performance, obtain the applicable product information, measurements and review from the responsible qualified professional, manufacturer, carrier or authority. A calculator record is supporting information, not their authorization. Using this website does not establish an engineering, inspection, legal-advice or other professional-services relationship.
Examples, diagrams and external sources
Worked examples are illustrative scenarios unless expressly identified and substantiated otherwise. Diagrams communicate concepts and calculation logic; they are not construction drawings, field measurements or reports of completed customer projects. Wood and workshop scenes are AI-generated conceptual imagery, not photographs of identified species specimens, customer projects or independently verified tests. Appearance in an image cannot establish species, density, dimensions or moisture content.
