Species and nominal-size references
- USDA FPL: Wood (2007), Table 6.7.2 — 27 domestic selections, density at 12% moisture, original lb/ft³ values visually checked against the PDF table.
- Coatings 2020, 10(6), 527, Table 2 — Ipe, Cumaru and Garapa sample densities at 12% water content. Only density is used; this site does not derive fire ratings.
- SFPA standard sizing — dry surfaced Southern Pine section references.
- Ipe Woods weight calculator — 1×6 and 5/4×6 nominal decking sections. Density values from that page are not used in the species library.
Reference review date: September 13, 2026. The 30 selections are not a verified sales ranking. Measured product dimensions and shipment records take precedence over generic presets.
How data is labeled
We distinguish illustrative assumptions, user-supplied catalog data and user-supplied measurements. None becomes independently verified because it is entered into a calculator. Numeric product records require an identifiable source, units, condition basis and review before automatic use. The 30-wood reference links each entry to its source and condition. USDA average values and individual research-sample values are distinguished.
Original work and topical ownership
This resource focuses on lumber weight, species-density comparisons, dimensions and moisture effects, with supporting handling and freight references. It does not duplicate general species encyclopedias, nominal-size libraries, installation manuals or application-specific structural guidance. Worked scenarios and visual workflows are written for these weight decisions. They are not reports of actual customer projects.
